Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the position of Radiation Oncology Clinical Research Fellow at the Austin Health Radiation Oncology department. We are seeking interested applicants commencing 2024/25.

Austin Health Radiation Oncology is part of the Olivia Newton John Cancer Wellness Centre on the Austin Campus at Heidelberg. The Austin Heidelberg campus is a major tertiary care hospital in Melbourne, Australia. Our department provides a full range of radiation oncology services to meet the diverse needs of the cancer patients, including subspecialist expertise in gynaecology and head/neck tumour streams. In 2021 we are launching the Victorian Statewide MRI Linear Accelerator programme, based around an Elekta Unity machine and a 1.5T MRI simulator. This position is a great opportunity to be part of the growing clinical and research projects in MRI-guided radiotherapy and MRI imaging. 

We have active technical programmes in stereotactic radiotherapy, IMRT/VMAT, HDR brachytherapy, superficial radiotherapy and respiratory-gated treatments in a variety of tumour streams. There is the opportunity to be involved in innovative research projects in the fields of clinical outcomes research, oncologic nuclear medicine, health services research and informatics. Additionally, translational laboratory or molecular imaging research opportunities are available for those undertaking a higher degree with the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute. 

Applicants must be eligible for medical registration with Australia (AHPRA), and hold (or expected to have passed appropriate exams for) Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (Radiation Oncology) at commencement. The successful candidate is expected to be actively involved with teaching junior Radiation Oncology Registrars and participate in clinical research projects. This position is designed to support an interested trainee undertake a research higher degree with a maximum tenure of two years by reapplication. Radiation Oncology at the Austin is accredited by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists to provide Radiation Oncology Specialist Training Program and is part of the statewide training programme that comprises of Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, The Alfred and Geelong Hospital. 

This position will according to the DiT EBA Agreement for Victorian Hospitals with an above award payment.
